- 👶Early childhood conditioning teaches boys to ignore and override their bodily sensations and emotions, with phrases like "suck it up" reinforcing emotional suppression.01:43

The digest
Lisa Lacy welcomes Jason Lange, a men's embodiment coach, group facilitator, and evolutionary guide, to discuss the pressing issues of men's mental health, the loneliness epidemic, and the path toward healthy masculinity. Jason's work focuses on helping men develop greater clarity around their purpose, relationships, and emotional lives, moving beyond the "lone wolf" model to embrace emotional expression, stronger intimate relationships, and deeper connections with themselves, their families, and their communities.
The Roots of Disconnection: Jason's Personal Journey
Jason shares that his journey into men's work began in his early twenties, stemming from his own struggles with loneliness, discomfort in his body, and difficulty forming romantic relationships. Growing up in a lower-middle-class household in the Midwest, his basic security needs were met, but emotional and physical connection were largely absent. He recalls literally not knowing how to talk or connect with women he was attracted to, often becoming anxious, tight, sweaty, and frozen in his body. This inability to connect extended to his male friendships as well; while other boys would touch, horseplay, and wrestle, Jason lacked the "wiring" for such physical connection. This early experience of being unable to connect, coupled with seeing his friends enter relationships, left him feeling stuck and increasingly ashamed. He kept his struggles locked down, even from his closest male friends, because he didn't know how to articulate these feelings.
