The digest
Linus Tech Tips recently embarked on a unique challenge: upgrading the tech setup of Jordan Block, an LTT writer known affectionately as the "King of Buy or DIY." The twist? Jordan's penchant for DIY means he makes almost everything himself, from custom fight sticks to intricate wooden jewelry. This presented a peculiar problem for the LTT crew: what do you buy for the man who DIYs everything?
The DIY Dilemma: What to Buy for the Ultimate Maker?
The answer, it turns out, was more stuff for DIYing. The $5000 AMD Ultimate Tech Upgrade wasn't just about a new gaming PC; it was a comprehensive haul of tools and gadgets designed to fuel Jordan's creative passions. Among the gifts were a drawing board, a combo planer/jointer, and even some off-grid gear, hinting at potential future projects. The team also snuck in a few personal touches, including production gear (a Canon EOS R50V camera, DM-E1D microphone, and SmallRig R50V cage) and items for Jordan's truck, though the latter was quickly repurposed for DIY projects.
The upgrade also included a brand-new AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU paired with a Gigabyte Gaming OC Radeon RX 7970 XT GPU. This powerful combination promises high FPS performance and breathtaking visuals, ensuring Jordan won't miss a beat in any playthrough. The 9800X3D is designed to handle CPU-heavy titles, while the 7970 XT allows for settings beyond ultra-high. For those interested in winning their own AMD upgrade, a link in the video description provides an opportunity to enter.
