Week 1 of college football delivered its usual dose of chaos, controversy, and unexpected upsets. Barstool Sports' Pardon My Take welcomed college football insider Andy Staples and Western Michigan Head Coach Lance Taylor to dissect the madness, with Big Cat and PFT Commenter leading the charge. From Michigan's controversial win to Lane Kiffin's trolling, the episode covered all the major storylines, including Max's return from his honeymoon with gifts for the crew.

Michigan's Controversial Win Over Western Michigan

The biggest talking point of Week 1 was undoubtedly Michigan's narrow (and highly debated) victory over Western Michigan. The game ended with a score of 35-34, but not without a significant officiating blunder. Western Michigan Head Coach Lance Taylor joined the show to discuss the game, expressing his pride in his team's performance despite the heartbreaking loss.

"We fought our absolute ass off on Saturday night," Taylor stated (1:18). "I appreciate how hard you guys fought on Saturday night." The controversy stemmed from a clock error in the final seconds of the game. After a Michigan fumble, the clock initially showed zero seconds, leading Western Michigan players and fans to believe they had won. However, officials reviewed the play and controversially put one second back on the clock, allowing Michigan to kick a game-winning field goal.

Andy Staples weighed in on the officiating, explaining the Big Ten's official stance. "The Big Ten's official explanation was that there was a secret clock that we did not get to see on TV," Staples explained (9:34). "And on that secret clock, there was actually an extra second left." However, Staples and the Pardon My Take crew were highly skeptical of this explanation, with PFT Commenter calling it "bullshit" (1:54). Big Cat added, "If it was Western Michigan, if rules were reversed, Western Michigan's not getting a second back on the clock" (2:58).

Coach Taylor, while acknowledging the pain of the loss, emphasized his team's resilience. "Our goals are still on the table," he said (2:44). "We're not in our conference. We still play a great G6 opponent in Boise State. We can still go win the MAC. All of our goals are still on the table." He highlighted his team's gritty performance, stating, "You proved on national television that you came in the Big House and played with a nationally ranked football team and went toe-to-toe, and a team who is traditionally known as a physical football team, you were more physical than them" (2:46).
