A Normal Day Turns to Unspeakable Horror
On July 9, 2014, in Spring, Texas, the Stay family's day began like any other. Stephen and Katie Stay, along with their five children—Cassidy (15), Bryan (13), Emily (9), Rebecca (7), and Zachariah (4)—were enjoying summer break. The older children were responsible and trusted, often left in charge for short periods. The family was deeply involved in their church and community, known for their kindness and strong family values. Their neighborhood, Enchanted Oaks, was considered safe and family-oriented, a place where neighbors looked out for each other. This sense of security made the events that unfolded that afternoon even more shocking.
Cassidy, acting as the big sister and caretaker, was tidying up the house when a knock came at the door. Seeing no car outside, she looked through the peephole and saw a FedEx delivery driver. She opened the door, and the man, in full uniform, asked for her parents. Cassidy informed him they weren't home but would be back later, and he left. A short time later, there was another knock. It was the same man. This time, when Cassidy opened the door, he forced his way inside. He immediately pulled out a gun and a knife, restraining the children and threatening them into silence. He was waiting for Stephen and Katie to return.
