The digest
Annie Elise, host of "Serialously," takes listeners on a harrowing journey into the "Philadelphia House of Horrors" case, a sprawling investigation that has uncovered a web of disturbing evidence, missing women, and a family history steeped in crime and depravity. What began as a seemingly routine traffic stop escalated into one of the most complex and unsettling cases in recent memory, potentially involving the largest serial killer in the last 50 years.
The Initial Discovery: A Routine Stop Unveils a Nightmare
The investigation began on June 19, 2026, at 6:00 AM, when a U.S. Park Ranger stopped a suspicious vehicle. The driver was identified as 44-year-old Eugene Horsch, and his passenger, who provided a fake ID, was later identified as Blair Tonzelli, a missing person. Inside the vehicle, authorities found two illegal handguns with tampered serial numbers, $8,000 worth of illegal drugs (crack cocaine, heroin, and marijuana), a DEA badge and ID with Eugene's photo, a switchblade, a collapsible baton, a cattle prod, and other suspicious items. The discovery of Blair Tonzelli, who was a missing person, prompted investigators to revisit her 2023 missing person case, leading them to search Eugene Horsch's home at 417 West Chew Avenue.
