Nvidia's Record-Shattering Quarter and the AI Boom
Jason Calacanis kicked off the discussion by highlighting Nvidia's truly historic earnings report. The company reported a staggering $96.2 billion in revenue for the quarter, marking a 106% year-over-year increase—more than double their previous performance. Their net profit reached an unprecedented $60 billion, making it the most profitable core business quarter for any public company ever, surpassing even tech giants like Google and Amazon. Nvidia also provided guidance for 70% growth next year, far exceeding Wall Street's expectation of 45%.
David Sacks emphasized that this performance validates the ongoing AI boom, stating, "The AI boom is continuing." He argued against the narrative that AI capital expenditure is a bubble, asserting that Nvidia's forecasts indicate sustained growth well into the future. Sacks also pointed out that despite an 8% stock bump, Nvidia is trading at a modest 12 times earnings, suggesting that the market still undervalues its potential due to concerns about future competition.
David Friedberg added that Nvidia's impressive numbers would have been even higher if not for supply constraints, further underscoring the immense demand for their products. He noted that Nvidia is now the world's most valuable company, with a $5.5 trillion market cap, and PolyMarket gives them a 79% chance of ending the year as number one.
