Garrett Langley, CEO of Flock Safety, joined Jason Calacanis on the All-In podcast to discuss the company's rapid growth, its impact on crime reduction, and the ongoing debate surrounding privacy and surveillance.
Flock Safety's Mission and Impact
Flock Safety, founded nine years ago, started with a simple mission: to help people live in safer neighborhoods. Initially, the company focused on selling license plate reading cameras to neighborhoods. These cameras capture still images of vehicles and read license plates, with the technology evolving to detect additional details like roof racks, bumper stickers, dents, or damage.
Langley highlighted Flock Safety's significant impact, stating that their technology has helped solve over a million crimes and located over 10,000 missing persons, ranging from grandparents with dementia to abducted children. He shared a recent example from Atlanta where a stolen car with a two-year-old in the back seat was safely returned within an hour thanks to Flock's cameras and the police department's efforts. Langley noted that in the last month alone, there were about 1,125 missing persons and over 20,000 stolen cars, emphasizing the critical role Flock plays in addressing these issues. Flock Safety's technology is currently deployed in over 6,000 cities across the country.
