In this YAP Classic episode, Ben Nemtin, a motivational speaker, best-selling author, and star of MTV's hit reality documentary series "The Buried Life," shares his incredible journey from battling depression to achieving his wildest dreams and inspiring thousands of others to do the same. Ben's story is a powerful testament to the idea that our biggest dreams are more achievable than we think, and that small, intentional actions can lead to life-altering transformations.
From Theatrical Clowns to Global Travelers: Ben's Unique Upbringing
Ben's adventurous spirit was cultivated from a young age, thanks to his unique upbringing. His father was a theatrical clown who played music and performed in theater shows, leading the family to travel extensively to different kids' festivals and cities around the world. "We would travel around to different kids festivals or different cities and he would do a show," Ben recalls. These travels took them to exotic locations like Africa and Sweden, and even to ski mountains. His parents, who met while traveling through Greece and playing music in tavernas for free room and board, instilled in him a profound sense of freedom and a belief that there weren't any rigid rules about how to live one's life. "I think from them I learned that there really wasn't any rules around how you had to live your life," Ben explains. This subconscious learning allowed him to understand that he could create his own life based on what made him happy, rather than conforming to societal pressures. Despite not having a lot of money growing up, his parents lived rich and fulfilling lives, constantly traveling and meeting new people, a lifestyle they continue to this day.
