The digest
The House of Representatives has voted to rebuke Donald Trump for his "catastrophic and unlawful war in Iran" by a vote of 220 to 204. This vote passed another War Powers Resolution Act, essentially stating that Trump's war in Iran is not authorized. Notably, seven Republicans sided with Democrats in passing this resolution.
The Catastrophic Impact of the War
Reports from the Congressional Budget Office and the Pentagon's Office of Inspector General detail the devastating impact of this conflict. Despite Trump's administration firing the Inspector General in January 2025 (who subsequently sued the Trump regime) and appointing a political ally, the report still painted a scathing picture. It detailed the destruction of military bases and equipment in the Middle East, as well as diplomatic offices, all destroyed by Iran. The Wall Street Journal also published a report, citing military officials who leaked information, indicating that the Trump regime expended 70 or more interceptors (including Patriot and THAAD interceptors) after escalating the war against Iran. This escalation included striking civilian cargo tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. When Iran responded by firing ballistic missiles at Jordan, the Trump regime expended another 70 or more interceptors. The combined cost of these interceptors alone could be around half a billion dollars or more in just one day.
