Roblox CEO: How to Make Better Decisions by Fixing Yourself First
Roblox CEO David Baszucki discusses how his company makes decisions, how he thinks about mental health, and the future of the metaverse.
Listen on the show ↗The digest
David Baszucki, the CEO of Roblox, shares his insights on decision-making, company culture, and the future of the metaverse. He emphasizes the importance of continuous improvement, the physical nature of mental health, and the power of user-generated content.
The Physicality of Mental Health and the Keto Diet
Baszucki opens by sharing a personal story about his son's struggle with bipolar disorder. After exhausting traditional medical options, a friend in the metabolic health community suggested the keto diet. Baszucki's son, who had been on five medications for years and was frequently hospitalized, began to show improvement after adopting the diet. This experience led Baszucki to believe that mental health issues can often have a physical basis, comparing a mental health problem to a broken arm. He highlights that the brain, like any other organ, needs proper energy to function optimally. The keto diet, in this context, is seen as a return to more "primeval foods" that some people may be better adapted to, especially those who struggle with processing carbohydrates. This personal journey not only transformed his son's life but also inspired the family to launch a foundation dedicated to researching the metabolic aspects of mental health.
