The digest
Megyn Kelly delves into the controversial Cornell 7 "rape" case, presenting an objective and detailed account of the events, the legal battles, and the societal implications. This case, involving a woman identified as Jane Doe and several fraternity members, has ignited debates about consent, intoxication, and the fairness of the justice system.
The Night in Question: October 19th-20th, 2024
The incident began when Jane Doe was invited to the Ki fraternity house by Matt Engles, a friend with whom she had a crush and a prior sexual history. After dancing, Engles proposed a threesome, which Jane Doe agreed to, citing her attraction to him and "drunken curiousness." John Newell, another fraternity brother, joined them. The initial attempt at group sex was hampered by Matt Engles repeatedly passing out due to intoxication. Jane Doe would later claim she arrived ten drinks in, a claim the men deny, with a phone recording showing Engles stating she told him she was sober. Despite Engles's incapacitation, Jane Doe and John Newell had sex.
A third man, Jillio Lopes, entered the room and also had sex with Jane Doe. All men involved assert the encounters were consensual. Winston Lee, a fourth man, also entered the room. According to the men, Lee specifically asked Jane Doe if she wanted to proceed, to which she responded, "we're all consenting adults," indicating her willingness. The situation escalated to include snorting ketamine off Jane Doe's naked body with her permission, an act she later alleged was initiated by Matt and John. She admitted to snorting ketamine off John Newell's erect penis, rationalizing it as "in for a penny, in for a pound" after having already done it once that night. Winston Lee's account states Jane Doe offered him sex, which he accepted. Matt Engles, having revived, joined the third interlude. The night concluded with Jane Doe expressing tiredness, and Matt Engles driving her home.
