In a recent development, Iran has announced the deployment of a new "secret weapon" and a strategic plan, directly in response to what they perceive as escalating provocations from the Trump administration. This comes amidst a backdrop of heightened tensions, with both sides engaging in actions that further destabilize the already volatile Middle East.
Iran's New Secret Weapon and Strategic Plan
Iran's leadership, through its Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezai, revealed the successful testing of an Iranian anti-ship missile. This missile, believed to be a Qasem Basir medium-range anti-ship ballistic missile with a range of approximately 1,200 kilometers, was reportedly fired above an American warship as a warning. Rezai stated that this "special missile created a hell for the Americans and they fled." The Houthis in Yemen have previously used a similar missile against Saudi tankers, demonstrating its effectiveness. This new weapon is described as capable of causing "absolute hell and absolute chaos."
In addition to the Qasem Basir, Iran has also been utilizing another weapon, the "Castle Breaker" or "Khaibar Shaken" missile. This missile is unique in its ability to maneuver and change its course in mid-air, making it difficult for interceptors to counter. This advanced capability poses a significant threat to the US, which is reportedly running low on interceptors like the Patriot and THAAD systems, and even those they possess struggle against such agile targets.
Iran's new strategic plan includes the establishment of a restricted zone outside the Strait of Hormuz, extending into the Persian Gulf. Any ship identified entering this zone with the intention of passing through the strait will be added to Iran's sanctions list. This move is a direct challenge to the US Navy's blockade line, indicating Iran's willingness to escalate if its interests are threatened. Rezai explicitly stated that Iran reserves the right to destroy any ship that crosses this line without coordinating with them.
