Chamath Palihapitiya and Jason Calacanis, joined by David Sacks and Friedberg, dive into the latest developments in AI, the current market euphoria, the San Francisco real estate market, the controversial decision to ban AI in NYC schools, and the geopolitical implications of a new oil deal with Venezuela.

GPT-6 and the Dawn of AGI

Jason kicks off the discussion by announcing Open AI's rollout of ChatGPT-6, codenamed Astra. This new flagship model will be available to a limited set of organizations in the coming days, with broader access for Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users. Greg Brockman, Open AI's president, believes the company has entered the AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) era. Sam Altman, CEO, echoed this sentiment at the G20 Summit, stating, "Much, much, much, three muches, more capable models are coming soon. The next generation of models are going to be sobering for everyone." He added, "I think no one intellectually honest can look at what's happening and not feel the weight of responsibility in front of us." Jason notes that people are "freaking out about the benchmarks, which are off the charts."

Chamath agrees with Greg Brockman, stating, "I think AGI has basically been here since the beginning of the year." He believes that models are incredibly performant within closed frontier lab companies and that the focus is now on the right cadence for release. Chamath predicts that these capabilities will be matched by both closed-source and open-source alternatives within the next three to four months. He emphasizes that the key takeaway is the broad availability of incredible intelligence capabilities and the decreasing cost of that incremental unit of intelligence. "Now I think it's just the messy middle part of organizing this properly for companies and for people and building things that are useful and showing an actual ROI," Chamath concludes.
