The Disappearance of Sue Malden
In October 2019, Sue Malden, a 65-year-old British widow living in Fleming Island, Florida, mysteriously disappeared. Her friends from "The British Club," a collective of sharp, dry-witted expats, grew concerned when they hadn't heard from her in two days. Her phone went straight to voicemail, and her landline rang unanswered. A welfare check by a friend's husband revealed nothing amiss in her clean, quiet home. Her gardening shorts were laid out, her car was in the driveway, and her purse was in the dresser. It was as if Sue and her cell phone had simply vanished without a trace.
Neighbors confirmed they hadn't seen Sue outside in a few days, which was unusual for the avid gardener. Her loyal friend in The British Club called the police, sensing that something was terribly wrong. Detective Mike asked Sue's friends how long they had known her, to which they responded since around 1990. They stated that Sue had been in Florida for almost two decades, and her husband had tragically died from throat cancer a few years after their move to the USA. With no children or close relatives nearby, her British friends were everything to her.
