The Bible: More Than Just a Book
Josh kicks off the discussion by emphasizing that the Bible is not just another book. He highlights its unparalleled historical impact, noting that it is the best-selling book of all time, translated into over 4,000 languages, and accessible to over 99% of the world's population. He quotes historical figures like Napoleon Bonaparte and Isaac Newton, who both acknowledged the Bible's profound power and influence. Josh points out that the Bible is illegal or restricted in many countries, underscoring its controversial yet transformative nature.
He clarifies that the Bible is a collection of books written over roughly 1,500 years by more than 40 different authors from diverse backgrounds, yet it consistently points to one gospel and one person: Jesus. This unity amidst diversity is a testament to its divine authorship. Josh stresses that when approaching the Bible, especially with questions of contradiction, humility and respect are essential. He introduces the idea that the Bible was written by men but authored by God.
