This discussion centers on Lee Strobel’s investigative journey from atheism to Christianity, focusing on the substantial historical evidence supporting the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the transformation that comes with faith. Strobel, a former atheist and investigative journalist, shares his personal story, the theological and historical arguments he uncovered, and reflections on contemporary challenges facing Christianity. The conversation also addresses misunderstandings about who was responsible for Jesus's death, church leadership failures, the growth and decline trends of Christianity worldwide, and the role of supernatural experiences in faith.

Lee Strobel’s Conversion Journey and the Central Question: Who Killed Jesus? (00:00–08:00)

Lee Strobel began the journey as an outspoken atheist, confident he could disprove the resurrection of Jesus in a weekend. His wife’s decision to become a Christian initially threatened their marriage, but it propelled him to investigate the factual basis of Christianity. Strobel’s legal and journalistic training drove a rigorous two-year research process, examining historical data to reach an unbiased verdict on Jesus's resurrection.

He explains that, from a Christian standpoint, the answer to "who killed Jesus?" is ultimately us—humanity, as Jesus atoned for mankind's sins. However, looking from a historical and non-Christian perspective, the Roman authorities physically executed Jesus, though heavily influenced by the Jewish leaders who opposed Jesus's teachings and claims to divinity. The Roman governor Pontius Pilate appeared reluctant, symbolically washing his hands of the matter while accommodating the crowd’s demand.

The Jewish religious leaders opposed Jesus because his message disrupted their legalistic system and he claimed unity with God (“I and the Father are one”), which was seen as blasphemous. Thus, both political and religious powers contributed to the crucifixion.
